Here’s a million dollar question for you.
A lot of people predicted and thought that it will be out after “Drive of Life,” but according to the new schedule of upcoming series. “The Ultimate Crime Fighter” will be replacing “Drive of Life.” What will replace “Entire City Dances” (unofficial title)? That would be Dayo Wong’s ancient comedy “Evil Kin” (unofficial title). TUCF will air till Nov 24 while EK will air till Nov 2. Before receiving this bit of news, I was pretty sure TSD had a chance to air in October, but nope, TVB decided to crush our hearts again. Coupled with the fact that WOIL 2007 is rumored to be another Anniversary series, TSD doesn’t seem to be rising from the ashes anytime soon.
Anyone know why TSD is placed on hold again and again? Please enlighten us. Other than TVB being just plain cruel, I have some theories…
HD Broadcasting
TSD was filmed using HD technology. TVB is planning to convert to HD broadcasting by the end of the year. By the end of the year, TVB will have their own HD channel. Since HD broadcasting is not quite ready yet, series like TSD and “Tai Chi” have been placed on hold.
Anniversary Series
TVB thinks it is worthy of becoming an Anniversary series and is planning to have it air in November. TVB’s General Manager Stephen Chan said he has already seen TSD and had high praises for it. Even Bosco once said that he likes this series. It does seem like TSD has high production values being filmed in Japan and all. Plus, “Under the Canopy of Love” was such a success.
Christmas
Since this series was filmed during the winter and features many snow scenes, it is very likely that TVB wants to air it around Christmas. The only gripe I have about this is ratings may not be the most optimal as people go on vacation during Christmas break.
Valentines Day 2008
“Under the Canopy of Love” was aired around Valentines day last year and achieved great success. Since this is predominantly a love story, it would fit the occasion. Just hope that Lunar New Year won’t clash with Valentines as ratings tend to be low during this period.
Warehoused
I think this is the least likely possibility due to the amount of money spent on it. It has been heavily promoted. I remember while it was filming, there would be news practically every day with coverage of the filming. Of course, the main reason why the reporters were so interested in it was because they wanted to catch Kevin and Niki red handed. TSD was recently featured at Beijing’s TV and Movie Fair. TVB had its own venue, but they only featured a few series such as “The Gem of Life,” “Entire City Dances” which will air in September and “The Seventh Day.” Below are some photos of the fair. I doubt TVB would put this series to waste by warehousing it. Plus, how could they miss out on utlizing Kevin and Niki’s rumors while they’re hot?

Really good article! I’ve never seen these pictures before, looks wonderful.
I think you’re right about that HD Broadcasting, is Master of Tai Chi also a HD production? I really really hope that TSD will be an anniversary series, I don’t want TVB air TSD on Christmas or Valentine.. -_-’
And please don’t warehouse it.

I have a feeling TVB will air TSD next year right before or during the Anniversary.

what do you mean HD broadcasting?
you mean every series out later will be in HD?

Well, TVB is trying to upgrade to digital broadcasting (HD). Many industrialized countries (The US, Korea, etc.) have HD programming available. Of course, only those that have HDTVs will truly benefit from this. They will have an HD channel for those that have HDTVs to enjoy. They aren’t getting rid of regular programming completely (at least not yet). So there will still be the regular Jade channel with regular broadcasting and another channel with HD broadcasting kind of like in the US. You choose which version you want to watch. I heard about they wanted over half the day with HD but still don’t understand much about it
there are lots of news on other channels like ATV and Cable starting on HD too but not sure what they will actually do
so will there be another channel later on? like TVB-HD or something with only HD stuff and original TVB just stay like this
then how will the series be aired?

I’m not sure how TVB intends to do this, but I think it would be like in the US where they have 2 versions. If you have an HDTV, watch it on the HD channel and if you have a regular TV watch it the “old” style.
